Terms of Service
Effective date: March 28, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using SpawnBox ("the Software"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Software. If you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian's permission to use SpawnBox.
2. Description of Service
SpawnBox is a desktop application for Windows 11 that helps you create, manage, and monitor Minecraft servers running on your local machine via Docker. Optional cloud features (Discord integration, custom server addresses, cloud backups) are available with a Pro subscription.
3. Personal Use Only
SpawnBox is licensed for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not use SpawnBox to operate a commercial Minecraft hosting service, sell server access to third parties, resell or sublicense the Software, or otherwise use SpawnBox as part of a business or revenue-generating offering. SpawnBox is designed for individuals, families, friend groups, and educators running private servers for personal enjoyment and learning.
4. Account and Subscription
- You may use SpawnBox's local features without an account.
- Cloud features require a free account. Some cloud features require a Pro subscription.
- Pro subscriptions are billed monthly ($9.99/mo) or annually ($99.99/yr) through Lemon Squeezy.
- You may cancel your subscription at any time. Access continues until the end of your billing period.
- We may offer promotional trials (e.g., Season Pass). Trial terms are stated at the time of purchase.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use SpawnBox to operate servers that violate Minecraft's EULA or Mojang's terms
- Abuse the Discord bot integration to spam, harass, or violate Discord's Terms of Service
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the Software's licensing or entitlement systems
- Use the custom DNS service to host content unrelated to Minecraft servers
- Share your account credentials or subscription with others
- Use automated tools to abuse our cloud APIs or infrastructure
6. Discord Bot
SpawnBox includes an optional Discord bot that can be added to your Discord server. By adding the bot, you grant it permission to:
- Read and send messages in channels you configure
- Post server status embeds and respond to slash commands
- Bridge chat between Discord and your Minecraft server
You can remove the bot from your Discord server at any time. The bot does not collect or store message content beyond processing slash commands.
7. Your Data
Your Minecraft server data remains on your local machine. Cloud features (backups, hibernation) encrypt your data before upload. You retain full ownership of your server data. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your information.
8. Cloud Services and Resources
SpawnBox's optional cloud features create and manage several types of data on our servers. All cloud resources are tied to your SpawnBox account and the specific Minecraft server they belong to.
- Server Addresses (Easy Address) - When you register a custom address (e.g., yourserver.mc.spawnbox.app), we create network records that point to your home network so friends can connect. Pro subscribers get reserved addresses that persist while your subscription is active. Free users get temporary addresses with a random word suffix that are released when your server has been offline for more than 24 hours.
- Cloud Backups (Hibernation) - When you hibernate a server to the cloud, your world data is encrypted and uploaded to our storage. This lets you restore your server later, even on a different computer. Archives are encrypted on our servers using a key derived from your account - we cannot read your world data.
- Web Portal and Scoreboard - If you enable a server address, your server gets a public web page showing player stats, server status, and a live scoreboard image. This data is refreshed while your server is running and stored as snapshots.
- Discord Integration - When you connect SpawnBox to your Discord server, we store your Discord server ID, channel settings, and cached status cards to power features like activity feeds and chat bridging.
- Server Heartbeats - While your Minecraft server is running, SpawnBox sends periodic check-ins so our systems know your server is online. These expire automatically after 5 minutes when your server stops.
9. Resource Lifecycle and Reclamation
Cloud resources are provided as part of your SpawnBox service. We manage them according to these policies to ensure fair use of shared infrastructure.
Active use
While you are actively using SpawnBox - signing in, running servers, or maintaining a paid subscription - your cloud resources are maintained and available.
Dormancy
An account is considered dormant when there has been no sign-in or server activity for an extended period and no active paid subscription. Different resources have different retention periods:
- Temporary server addresses (Free) - Released after 24 hours without an active server connection. The address becomes available for others to use.
- Reserved server addresses (Pro) - Maintained while your subscription is active. After cancellation, addresses are kept for 90 days, then may be released.
- Cloud backup archives - Retained for 6 months after your last sign-in if you have no active subscription, then may be permanently deleted.
- Discord data and web portal snapshots - Cleaned up when you delete a server, release its address, or after 6 months of account inactivity.
Reclamation
We reserve the right to reclaim cloud resources from dormant accounts. Before permanently deleting stored data (like cloud backups), we will attempt to notify you by email with at least 30 days notice.
Abuse
We may immediately suspend or revoke any cloud resource being used in violation of these Terms, including: using server addresses for non-Minecraft purposes, generating excessive automated traffic, or operating abusive infrastructure.
No guarantee of availability
Cloud services (addresses, storage, integrations) are provided on a best-effort basis. While we strive for high availability, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access to any cloud resource. We strongly recommend keeping local backups of all important world data.
10. Intellectual Property
SpawnBox is proprietary software. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Software. SpawnBox is not affiliated with Mojang Studios, Microsoft, or Discord Inc. "Minecraft" is a trademark of Mojang Studios.
11. Third-Party Content and Minecraft Ecosystem
SpawnBox helps you manage Minecraft servers, but we do not develop, maintain, or control Minecraft itself, any server software (Paper, Fabric, Forge, etc.), mods, plugins, datapacks, resource packs, or other third-party content. You acknowledge that:
- Mods and plugins are created by third parties and may cause server instability, crashes, world corruption, or data loss. SpawnBox is not responsible for the behavior of any mod, plugin, or datapack you install.
- Server configurations are your responsibility. Misconfigured servers, incompatible mod combinations, and improper settings can lead to performance issues, security vulnerabilities, or data loss.
- Minecraft updates may break compatibility with existing worlds, mods, or plugins. SpawnBox does not guarantee compatibility across Minecraft versions.
- World data can be corrupted by server crashes, power failures, mod conflicts, or other events outside our control. You are solely responsible for maintaining backups of your world data.
- Docker and WSL are third-party technologies that SpawnBox relies on. We are not responsible for issues caused by Docker, WSL, Windows updates, or your system's hardware or network configuration.
- Player behavior on your server is your responsibility. SpawnBox provides tools to manage your server but is not responsible for what players do on it, including griefing, cheating, or inappropriate conduct.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
SpawnBox is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
- The Software will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
- Server performance will meet your expectations
- Any particular mod, plugin, or server configuration will work correctly
- Backups (local or cloud) will always complete successfully or be recoverable
- The Software will be compatible with future versions of Minecraft, Windows, Docker, or WSL
SpawnBox is a management tool - we provide the interface, not the underlying server software. We strongly recommend maintaining your own independent backups of all important world data.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SpawnBox and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Software, including but not limited to:
- Loss, corruption, or destruction of Minecraft world data or server files
- Server downtime, crashes, or performance degradation
- Damage caused by mods, plugins, datapacks, or third-party content
- Failed or incomplete backups
- Security breaches resulting from server misconfiguration or exposed ports
- Loss of revenue or players due to server issues
- Costs incurred from third-party services (Discord, cloud storage, etc.)
In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
14. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to cloud features if you violate these Terms. Local features of SpawnBox will continue to function. Upon termination, your cloud data will be retained for 30 days to allow you to export it, after which it may be deleted. Cloud resource reclamation follows the policies described in Section 9.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the application or by email. Continued use of SpawnBox after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
16. Telemetry and Diagnostics
By using SpawnBox, you acknowledge that the application collects anonymous usage telemetry as described in our Privacy Policy. Telemetry is enabled by default during the preview period and can be disabled in Settings at any time.
SpawnBox includes a voluntary diagnostic package feature that, when you choose to use it, collects application logs, performance data, system information, and a copy of the SpawnBox database (which includes server configurations, player session history, and analytics data). You may choose to anonymize this data before sending. Diagnostic packages are retained for 90 days and then automatically deleted.
Diagnostic packages may contain information about other players on your Minecraft server (usernames, session data, chat messages in logs). By sending a diagnostic package, you represent that you are the server operator and have the authority to share this data for debugging purposes. We recommend using the anonymization option to protect other players' information.
17. Preview Program
The SpawnBox preview program provides early access to pre-release software. Preview software may contain bugs, experience performance issues, and undergo rapid changes. Your Minecraft worlds and server files are not modified by SpawnBox, but application data (analytics, sessions, settings) may be reset during updates. We recommend maintaining regular backups. Preview builds run with enhanced logging enabled by default to help diagnose issues.
